and Assembled
Groups such as Schools and places of Higher
Education
It
is an increasingly sad fact of life that we now have
to be far more aware of our personal safety. The newspapers
are full of appalling stories about rapes, muggings
and other violent crimes which are encountered by ordinary
people on a daily basis.
On
a more positive note, people need not be helpless in
the face of an attack. The key to self-preservation
is preparation. Fitnessworks longstanding background
as martial arts experts has enabled us to develop an
excellent training programme for those keen to gain
the basic self-defence skills necessary for their own
personal protection.
As
well as attaining the highest levels in the sport of
Judo Fitnessworks instructors have been actively involved
in teaching for over 10 years. Our team of professionals
hold current coaching and first aid qualifications and
have undertaken the appropriate police disclosure enquiries.

As
a fully mobile service we come prepared with soft mats
and suitable body protection equipment to enable the
students to fully practice and experience all the relevant
techniques that will be taught.
Workshop
Aims:
- To
identify risks of attack and highlight ways to avoid
these
- To
build confidence in attack situations
- To
provide information about 'date rape' drugs and their
effects (modified for younger audiences)
- To
enable participants to use their 'weapons of the body'
and to be able to identify target areas on attackers
body
- To
feel confident using physical self-defence techniques
In
conjunction with learning the safest and most effective
methods of reacting to potential attack scenarios Workshop
participants will be introduced to other valuable exercise
routines, such as stretching, to improve their suppleness,
and be given advice regarding improving levels of physical
fitness.
Although
we recognise that young women are particularly vulnerable
to physical attack, our training programmes can be adapted
to a male audience. We suggest that the two sexes
are taught separately as reasons for attack and method
of attacks differ considerably between the two groups.
