Shelford Rugby Union Football Club

Tony Begovich (Fitnessworks) has been running the pre-season training for the first team squad over the last three years. He has seen young players develop and achieve a good level of conditioning that is needed to play well for the club.

The training methods used by Fitnessworks, have evolved throughout the build up to the rugby season. In detail, some of the training methods used, include:

• Resistor vests and weight sleds – to build muscular endurance

• Ladders and hurdles – to increase speed and improve agility

• Wrestling and boxing – as forms of cross training, to condition the players’ bodies for physical contact during the game.

Quote from Shelford Head Coach......

‘Pre-season training has been very intense so far, numbers have been good with a core 40 players turning out every session, Tony has really got the squad working very hard on conditioning this past 4 weeks, I have been very impressed from what I have seen so far and already I can see a major transformation in the players from week 1, the attitude from the new guys who have joined the club right through to the young colts and 17 year olds is amazing, we certainly have some talent coming through our youth setup, the players are doing the hard yards with a smile on their faces which tells me that they are actually enjoying the tough tasks Tony puts them through, this has put us in very good shape for phase 2 of pre-season training, team structure, attack and defence.’
